We wake up in the middle of night, feeling hungry, but we know we’re not allowed to eat anything. After we eat, we’ll go to bed and the food will go straight to our stomach, thighs, and buttocks.
What if you wake up in the middle of the night, really hungry, and you’re unable to go to sleep because of it? You can have these healthy and nutritious nighttime snacks:
Eating cereal with milk doesn’t mean you eat the most sugary cereal at night. Cereals with added sugars will keep you awake at night. Instead, you need to eat a cereal that is rich in fiber so it keeps you full at night. You can eat the cereal with either cold or hot milk.
Cheese contains the perfect amount of calcium, fat, and protein. If you eat cheese at night, you will feel satiated. If you don’t want to eat just plain cheese, eat it with whole-grain crackers.
3. Fruits and Nuts
You can keep a bowl of fruits and nuts on your bedside table. Fruits contain a lot of water, vitamin C, and fiber and will keep you feeling full. Nuts contain a lot of amino acids, vitamins, oils, and minerals. You can eat both nuts and fruits together or eat them separately.
If you experience hunger pangs at night, have a bowl of oatmeal with warm milk. You can add fruits and drizzle honey on top of it. Oatmeal is rich in fiber and will help you feel full. However, you should not eat a large amount of oatmeal at night, as it will make it difficult for you to fall back asleep.
5. Turkey Sandwich
You can prepare a turkey sandwich a night before and put it in the fridge. If you feel hungry in the middle of the night, you can go to the fridge, take it out, and eat it. A turkey sandwich will instantly end your hunger pangs. Turkey is a nutritious snack, as it contains protein and fat, whereas the bread is rich in carbs and fiber.
6. Greek Yogurt
You can eat Greek yogurt with fruits. If you want to eat something sweet in the middle of the night, you can add fruits to your bowl of Greek yogurt. You can even create a yogurt and fruit smoothie. From yogurt, you will receive probiotic bacteria, calcium, carbs, and proteins. If you don’t want to add fruits, you can add honey.
7. Cottage Cheese
Cottage cheese contains calcium, proteins, and amino acids. It also contains tryptophan, an amino acid, which induces sleep and makes you feel full for longer. You can sweeten things up by combing it with peanut butter. If you have never had peanut butter with cottage cheese, try it.
8. Hard-boiled Egg
You can either eat a hard-boiled egg on its own or on a slice of bread. Egg will provide you with protein and fat. You can add a slice of cheese if you want.
When you wake up in the middle of the night and those midnight cravings hit you, you can try any of these delicious snacks to quiet the hunger pangs.
