In life, one needs to be motivated to ensure productivity and accomplish their goals. If you struggle to keep yourself motivated each day, you are seeing others pass you by in both your professional and personal life, as you sit waiting for motivation to find you. It should be the other way around, you know. You need to seek motivation.
To find motivation and accomplish your professional and personal goals, you need to practice the following mind tricks:
1. Visualize Success before You Complete Your Goal
You need to visualize success before you complete your goal. You need to spend five minutes, sitting down with your eyes closed, and visualize the process of completing the task and how it feels to complete the task successfully.
No matter how big or small the task is, you need to visualize its success before you complete it. Even though you have not completed the task yet, visualizing a successful outcome will motivate you to complete it and make your vision true.
2. Figure Out the Order of Things
You have several different tasks that you need to complete, some more important than others. You need to prioritize, meaning write down the tasks you need to complete first, as they are the most important. You can create a to-do list, listing around three to five items to complete that day and the following days.
3. Give Yourself Fake Deadlines to Complete Tasks
Never put the real deadline to complete a task on your calendar, but a fake one. If you’re supposed to complete a task by Friday, you will write Thursday instead. In doing so, you’re tricking your mind to complete the task one day earlier. This will allow you to give equal attention to both long-term and short-term projects. You can even combine real and fake deadlines. This means that no matter what, you can never cheat.
4. Get Rid of Distractions
You need to eliminate distractions from your life. Get rid of your mobile phone, turning it off. Our mobile phone is one of the main distractions of our life. It keeps us occupied throughout the day, even when we’re supposed to working on completing a task. If you want to complete a task faster and earlier than the due date, you have to bid your mobile phone a good bye for a few hours, unless you need to use it to complete a task, that is.
5. Reward Yourself for Your Success
Once you complete a task, you can reward yourself for your efficiency. You can reward yourself by going to the movies, hanging out with your friends and family, going for massage, eating out, watching a TV show or movie at home, or whatever activity brings you joy in your life.
The next time you feel unmotivated to complete a task, or the next time you have a task that you need to complete, you need to practice these mind tricks to motivate yourself.
