You are a regular face at the gym so you naturally think you know everything there is ever to know about exercise. Are you really sure that you know everything about exercise or are there somethings people tend to leave out or perhaps, put a mask over it so no one finds out?
Hmm, food for thought, right? Let us burst your bubble and distort your perfect world because we’re going to tell you some interesting and shocking facts about exercise that people don’t tell you and if you know that already, it is time to face the facts, my friend. Here is a list of five shocking facts about exercise you need to know:
1. Intense Exercise Will Not Help You Shed the Pounds
We tend to think intense exercise will help us lose weight, but according to scientists, it is the complete opposite. You may be in the gym day and night, but your weight is at a standstill. In an experiment, scientists created three groups.
The first group: Didn’t change their diet and exercise routine
The second group: Didn’t change their diet, but changed their exercise routine, performing moderate exercise to burn 300 calories each day
The third group: Didn’t change their diet, but changed their exercise routine, performing intense exercise to burn 600 calories each day
The scientists conducted the study for 13 weeks.
The results: The first group did not gain or lose weight. The second group lost more weight than the third group who performed intense exercise.
The verdict: Instead of working out ruinously, you should work out moderately.
2. Exercise Can Cause a Rift in Your Relationships
When you are exercising more, you’re spending more time the gym than with your partner. This hurts your relationship. You do not feel like doing anything after working out in the gym, as you’re too tired toward the end of the day and all you want to do is stay home and relax.
You need to create a proper routine where you create a balance between your love for the gym and your partner. Otherwise, your relationship will suffer and your partner will choose to distance themselves away from you. If you want to have a healthy relationship with your partner, you need to make time for them.
3. Exercise Can Cause You to Gain Weight
This might come as a shock to you, but it is true. Exercise will cause you to gain weight. You might sleep less so you can give more time to your workout routine. By sacrificing your sleep, you will end up gaining weight. Sleeping less slows down your metabolism and this in return, causes you to gain weight, as you’re burning fewer calories.
4. Running Marathons Damages Your Heart
If you participate in several marathons, you are causing damage to your heart. Before the marathon is set to take place, you train for it. Extreme training can stretch out your heart muscles, resulting in heart problems. If you love running marathons, you don’t have to stop, just cut down on the time you spend training. Your intense exercise routine should not last more than an hour.
Now, that you know these shocking secrets, go and blow someone else’s mind away with them!
